CareerReady Colorado Certificate (CRC) |
The CareerReady Colorado Certificate (CRC) program was designed to give employers across all businesses and industries a
reliable way to measure foundational skills. Career seekers can use the CRC to show employers that they have the basic
skills required for employment or promotion. Even if you already have a high school diploma, GED, or a post-secondary
degree, the CRC further verifies that you can handle the kinds of tasks that are common in today's competitive workplace.
The CRC is a credential based upon the WorkKeys® Job Skills assessment system, developed by the national testing company
best known for the ACT college admissions. Each test takes about one hour to complete (three hours total). If
more training is needed to get a certificate, job seekers can use free, online training programs at participating workforce centers.
The three target areas the CRC focuses on include:
- Reading for Information
- Applied Mathematics
- Locating Information
Simply put, the CRC creates objective standards for employment readiness and demonstrates a job seeker’s mastery of the
work-applied skills employers are seeking. |

Getting started: |
- Visit the official State of Colorado website at
www.colorado.gov/
- Navigate to the "ONLINE SERVICES" tab at the top of the page and select "Employment Services." Under
the "Jobs" column heading, click on the link labeled "Find a Workforce Center near you." Call to make an appointment to
take the "CareerReady Colorado Certificate assessment test" (Be sure to request this test by name.)
- Although it is strongly recommended that you take the Applied Mathematics assessment, the Rocky Mountain Chapter IEC
would encourage you to take all three assessments in order to earn the CRC credential signed and endorsed by Governor Ritter and
recognized by Colorado’s businesses. This credential is valid for five years and is portable to other states that
recognize the CRC. Doing so will only benefit you in your job search and enhance your employment and/or academic
portfolio.
Each assessment test is free of charge and you may retake the test once a month until you achieve the desired skill level. In
addition, free KeyTrain classes are available to help you reach your educational goals. The WorkKeys® score report
gives a level score and scale score. You must achieve at least a Silver Level on the Applied Mathematics assessment
to enroll in the Rocky Mountain Chapter IEC four-year apprenticeship program!
