Bureau of Apprenticeship & Training (BAT) Registration
The Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training is a service agency that promotes and provides technical assistance to
potential and current sponsors in establishing and maintaining registered apprenticeship programs. The Rocky Mountain Chapter
IEC sponsors the BAT program on behalf of participating contractors.
I. The Three "R's" for Apprentices
A. Register - BAT (Bureau of Apprenticeship & Training): 30 days
B. Register - State Electrical Board (30 days)
C. Register - IEC Apprenticeship School for the next term
II. BAT Registration Procedures
A. Call for Application appointment 1:00 to 3:00 PM, 1st & 3rd Tuesdays
B. Application Time - one hour at a time
1) Read BAT Standards
2) Application documentation
a. Driver's License or Photo I.D.
b. Social Security card, passport or birth certificate
c. High school transcripts or GED scores - not required
d. Documentation of hours (if Applicable)
e. Sign-in Log book
g. Schedule return visit for oral interview (Held 2nd & 4th Thursdays, 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Allow two hours.)
C. Oral Interview
1) Arrive early
2) Bring missing documentation
D. Interviewees are scored and placed on the "Hire List"
E. May Sign Apprenticeship Agreement form at this time. If the apprentice is hired from the hire list, the AA form
is signed following hiring process. NO DAVIS BACON EMPLOYMENT UNTIL THE AA FORM HAS BEEN RECEIVED BACK FROM BAT!!
F. Hire List
III. BAT Reporting - OJT Form - "Apprentice Electrician's Report"
A. Apprentice to complete record
B. Collect and provide new form with paycheck
C. Photocopy new forms for Apprentices
D. Mail or FAX the OJT reports to IEC by 10th of month
(V.A. benefits requests cannot be sent in without completion of the OJT reports. All V.A. forms are to be signed by
authorized IEC personnel)
E. Send an Apprentice Transmittal Memorandum form to notify us of any status changes with your apprentice/s; termination,
lay-offs, quitting, injury, etc.
F. Annual Re-Application by Contractors - Report of Employer Skilled Workforce form
G. Wage Survey - due each year
